1. Cell & Battery Pack Testing
- Conduct electrical, functional, and performance testing of Li‑ion cells, modules, and battery packs.
- Perform capacity, cycle life, rate capability, efficiency, and aging tests.
- Verify cell grouping based on capacity, IR, OCV, and SOC matching criteria.
- Validate charge/discharge profiles as per design and application requirements.
2. BESS System Testing & Validation
- Test complete BESS including battery pack, BMS, PCS/inverter, and control systems.
- Validate charge–discharge logic, SOC/SOH accuracy, protections, and alarms.
- Perform grid‑connected and off‑grid test scenarios, including PV + BESS integration where applicable.
- Support site acceptance testing (SAT) and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
3. BMS Functional & Safety Testing
- Validate BMS functionality, including balancing, communication, and protection features.
- Test safety protections:
- Over‑voltage / under‑voltage
- Over‑current / short‑circuit
- Over‑temperature / under‑temperature
- Analyze BMS logs and fault events for RCA and corrective actions.
- Support firmware updates and regression testing.
4. Safety, Abuse & Compliance Testing
- Execute safety and abuse tests as per applicable standards (where in‑house permitted):
- Thermal abuse
- Electrical abuse
- Mechanical checks (visual, swelling, loose connections)
- Ensure compliance with international standards, such as:
- IEC 62619 / IEC 62933
- UL 1973 / UL 9540 / UL 9540A (as applicable)
- IS / BIS requirements
- Identify potential safety risks and escalate critical observations immediately.
5. Failure Analysis & RCA
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for failed cells, BMS, or battery packs.
- Coordinate with design, supplier, and quality teams to identify corrective and preventive actions.
- Support supplier quality audits and corrective action verification.
- Maintain traceability of failures and corrective actions.
6. Test Equipment & Lab Management
- Operate and maintain test equipment:
- Battery cyclers
- Environmental chambers
- Thermal sensors and data loggers
- Ensure calibration, safe operation, and test repeatability.
- Develop and improve test fixtures and test setups as needed.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare test plans, validation protocols, and test reports.
- Document deviations, observations, and approval notes clearly.
- Maintain test records for audits, certifications, and customer submissions.
- Support technical documentation for product release.
8. Cross‑Functional & Supplier Coordination
- Work closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Sourcing teams.
- Support new product development (NPD) testing and pilot builds.
- Coordinate with cell, BMS, and system suppliers for samples, feedback, and corrective actions.
- Assist in training production and quality teams on testing and safety practices.
9. Continuous Improvement
- Improve test coverage, procedures, and validation methods.
- Identify opportunities to reduce test time without compromising safety or quality.
- Stay updated on latest Li‑ion technologies, standards, and testing methodologies.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of Li‑ion battery chemistry and BESS architecture.
- Hands‑on experience with battery testing equipment.
- Knowledge of BMS logic, protections, and communication protocols (CAN/RS485).
- Familiarity with global safety and compliance standards.
- Analytical mindset with strong RCA and documentation skills.
- High focus on safety, accuracy, and process discipline.
