Job Summary

As the Modern Trade Head, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive sales growth and profitability within the modern trade channel. Your role will involve leading a team, managing key accounts, and establishing strong relationships with modern trade partners to deliver revenue and market share targets. You will work closely with internal teams to implement trade marketing, category management, and promotional plans, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business objectives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning & Business Development

·        Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to expand market share within the modern trade segment.

·        Identify market trends, consumer behaviour insights, and competitor activities to uncover growth opportunities and mitigate risks.

·        Set clear objectives, KPIs, and targets to measure the success of modern trade initiatives.

·        Identify and prioritize potential modern trade partners based on strategic fit and growth potential.

·        Negotiate favorable terms for product listings, promotions, and visibility with key modern trade partners.

2. Sales Execution & Performance Management

·        Lead the execution of sales plans, trade promotions, and merchandising strategies to optimize performance across modern trade channels.

·        Monitor and analyse sales data, market trends, and competitor activities to guide strategic decisions and take corrective actions when needed.

·        Ensure the timely and efficient achievement of sales targets by managing performance and adjusting strategies as necessary.

·        Control promotional costs and ensure effective spending to drive sales, brand building, and market penetration.

3. Category Management & Promotions

·        Oversee category management and the execution of product promotions and activations to drive sales and visibility.

·        Collaborate with cross-functional teams to tailor product offerings, pricing strategies, and promotional campaigns for modern trade customers.

·        Plan and execute in-store activations and merchandising strategies to boost product visibility and sell-out performance.

4. Relationship Management

·        Build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers at major modern trade accounts.

·        Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring top-tier service delivery.

·        Lead joint business planning initiatives, drive collaborative promotional campaigns, and ensure alignment with company objectives.

5. Leadership & Development

·        Lead to achieve the company’s modern trade objectives.

·        Recruit, train, and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.

·        Drive team motivation and ensure a collaborative, results-driven environment.

6. Operational Excellence & Financial Management

·        Manage accounts receivables, ensuring timely debt collection and resolution of long-standing payment issues.

·        Monitor and improve operational efficiencies within the modern trade channel to drive cost-effective results.

·        Negotiate favourable annual trading and logistics contracts with key retail chains.


Qualifications

·        Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA is highly preferred.

·        Experience: 10-15 years of experience in modern trade sales, business development, and key account management, preferably in the Consumer Goods / Moile industry.

·        Skills:

o   In-depth understanding of modern trade channels, market dynamics, and trends.

o   Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

o   Proven track record of achieving sales growth and success within modern trade.
