1. Position Overview
The Engineer will be responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and high‑quality manufacturing of lead acid batteries. This role involves supervising daily operations, optimizing production processes, ensuring compliance with safety & environmental norms, troubleshooting technical issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Production & Operations
- Monitor and control daily manufacturing activities (grid casting, pasting, curing, formation, assembly, charging, etc.).
- Ensure achievement of production targets related to output, yield, and rejection rates.
- Maintain equipment settings and process parameters as per SOPs.
- Coordinate with workforce and shift teams for smooth plant operation.
B. Process Engineering
- Optimize process parameters to improve productivity, reduce rejects, and enhance product performance.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) of process deviations, failures, or quality issues.
- Implement process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other methodologies.
- Validate new raw materials, tools, and equipment modifications.
C. Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure compliance to ISO/TS standards, quality systems, and control plans.
- Monitor quality at various stages (material testing, plate making, assembly, formation).
- Perform audits, inspections, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA).
- Support new product development trials and validation.
D. Equipment & Maintenance Support
- Assist maintenance teams in preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support installation and commissioning of new machinery.
E. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
- Ensure strict compliance with lead handling guidelines, PPE, and environmental standards.
- Conduct safety training and ensure lead-exposure control practices.
- Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
F. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.
- Generate daily/weekly reports on production metrics, yields, and rejections.
- Maintain traceability and batch documentation as per regulatory norms.
3. Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of lead acid battery chemistry and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of grid casting, pasting, curing, formation, and assembly processes.
- Familiarity with testing standards such as IS 1651, IS 13369, JIS, DIN, etc.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills (QC tools, RCA, FMEA).
- Hands‑on experience with production machinery and automation.
- Knowledge of EHS guidelines for lead-based industries.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP/ERP, and data analysis.
4. Education & Experience
- B.Tech / B.E. – Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Metallurgy, or related field.
- 2–8+ years experience in lead acid battery manufacturing (or related electrochemical industries).
- Freshers may be considered for trainee roles.
