Qualification/ Personal Attributes

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma / B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Production Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of experience in lead-acid or other Tubular battery manufacturing, specifically in spine and grid casting operations.
  • Hands-on experience with gravity casting, Spine Casting, and mould maintenance.
  • Familiarity with alloy preparation, Defect Analysis of product.

Key Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of spine and grid casting processes.
  • Leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, TPM , SAP, Process Quality And 5S implementation.
  • Basic understanding of quality systems and process documentation.

 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Production Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate daily shift activities for spine and grid casting lines.
  • Ensure timely startup, smooth running, and shutdown of casting machines.
  • Monitor process parameters such as temperature, mould alignment, alloy composition, and cycle time.
  • Maintain production records, shift logs, and downtime reports.

Process Control & Optimization

  • Ensure correct alloy mix and casting conditions for spine and grid components.
  • Identify and resolve process deviations, casting defects (e.g., porosity, cracks, misruns), and equipment issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, reduce scrap, and improve cycle time.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure casted spines and grids meet dimensional and metallurgical specifications.
  • Coordinate with the Quality team for in-process inspections and corrective actions.
  • Implement and maintain process control documentation and SOPs.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Enforce strict safety protocols for molten metal handling, furnace operations, and casting equipment.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and ensure use of PPE by all shift personnel.
  • Report and investigate any safety incidents or near misses.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental norms related to emissions, waste handling, and material storage.

Team Management

  • Lead and manage shift operators and technicians.
  • Conduct shift briefings, assign tasks, and ensure discipline and productivity.
  • Train team members on casting techniques, safety practices, and equipment handling.

Maintenance Coordination

  • Report equipment breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance for timely resolution.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities and ensure readiness of casting lines.
  • Build technical capability within the team to support continuous improvement.
