Lab Incharge / Deputy Manager – Battery Manufacturing

Department: R&D

Location: Angul

Reporting To: AGM- R&D

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Purpose

To lead and manage the battery manufacturing laboratory operations, ensuring accurate testing, quality control, compliance with industry standards, and support for product development and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Laboratory Operations & Management

- Oversee daily lab activities including chemical, physical, and electrical testing of battery components and finished products.

- Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and functionality of lab equipment.

- Maintain lab documentation, SOPs, and test records.

2. Quality Control & Assurance

- Implement and monitor quality control procedures for raw materials, in-process items, and final products.

- Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues and support corrective actions.

- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and other regulatory requirements.

3. Team Leadership

- Supervise lab technicians and analysts; assign tasks and monitor performance.

- Provide training and skill development for lab staff.

- Foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

4. R&D and Product Support

- Collaborate with R&D teams for new product testing and validation.

- Support development of battery formulations, electrolyte compositions, and cell performance evaluation.

- Assist in benchmarking and competitor analysis.

5. Safety & Compliance

- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and hazardous material handling.

- Maintain compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations.

6. Reporting & Documentation

- Prepare technical reports, test summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

- Support audits and customer visits with relevant documentation and demonstrations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: B.Tech/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or related field.

Experience: 5–10 years in battery manufacturing or related lab environment.

Technical Skills:

- Knowledge of lithium-ion, lead-acid, or other battery chemistries

- Familiarity with BMS (Battery Management Systems) testing

- Proficiency in lab software and data analysis tools

- Attention to detail and organizational skills
